New This Year
Fluzone High-Dose Vaccine
- Higher-Dose Vaccine, Healthier Immune Response.
Fluzone High-Dose is a new vaccine designed specifically for people 65 years of age and older. When we age, our immune system naturally becomes weaker. As a result, older people are at greater risk of developing a more serious illness from the flu. Recent clinical trials comparing the regular flu vaccine with the higher-dose vaccine demonstrate that a stronger immune system response happens after vaccination with Fluzone High-Dose.
- Why is the High-Dose vaccine only administered to older people?
When we age, our immune system naturally becomes weaker. As a result, older people are at greater risk of developing a more serious illness from the flu. Aging also decreases the body’s ability to have a healthy immune response after receiving the flu vaccine. Recent clinical trials comparing the regular flu vaccine with the higher-dose vaccine demonstrate that a stronger immune system response happens after vaccination with Fluzone High-Dose.
- Is High-Dose safe?
The Fluzone High-Dose shot is safe. However, certain side effects, which are also possible after receiving the regular flu shot, were reported more frequently after High-Dose vaccination. Often temporary and mild, these side effects include pain, redness and swelling at the injection site, headache, muscle aches, fever, and a general feeling of discomfort.
- How do I learn more?

All seasonal vaccines now protect from H1N1.
- All of this year’s flu vaccines (including the standard vaccine) will protect against three different viruses: the H3N1 virus, an influenza B virus and the H1N1 virus. If you’re receiving a seasonal or regular flu shot, you will not need to get a separate H1N1 shot.
Borgess VNA Home Care now accepts ALL Medicare Part B Plans.
- Flu shots are $33 or covered by Medicare Part B. Borgess VNA Home Care now accepts ALL Part B plans. Please bring your Medicare Part B insurance card with you (this is the same card that covers your doctor visits). Pneumonia shots are $60 and typically covered by Medicare Part B as well. For healthy individuals between the ages of 2 and 49, we will again offer access to the Flu Mist nasal spray for $33. We accept MasterCard, Visa, check or cash. If you are paying for your immunization(s), we will give you a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company or flex plan for reimbursement.
