Bariatric Classes, Seminars and Events

Our support for you goes well beyond surgery.

The Borgess Bariatric Surgery Program connects with patients on many levels to help achieve weight loss goals. Beginning with free bariatric seminars our goal is to help you make the best decisions – and give you the best chance for success.

When you become a bariatric patient at Borgess, you become part of a dedicated team. We offer a variety of classes, events and support groups to help you achieve and maintain your weight-loss goals. All of the post-surgery classes are offered at the Borgess Health and Fitness Center (BHFC) at 3025 Gull Rd, so you’ll be in familiar surroundings — and surrounded by professionals and other patients who have your best interests in mind.

Here are a few examples of the ongoing support you can receive from the Borgess Bariatric Surgery Program:

Bariatric Cooking Class

Healthy nutrition is critical for bariatric surgery patients. To help make it tasty and fun, the Borgess Bariatric Surgery Program offers a free cooking class to help patients make good food choices, and achieve balanced nutrition and a healthy lifestyle.

Bariatric Cooking Class features recipes from the “Light-Hearted Living Cookbook” prepared by a local chef who explains each step. A registered dietitian will also discuss different aspects of the bariatric diet.

Free classes are held in the Borgess Health & Fitness Center, classroom 3 or 4 on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, January 8, 5:15-6:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 9, 5:15-6:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday July 9, 5:15-6:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, October 8  5:15-6:30 p.m.

This is always one of our most popular events and space is limited. Please call (269) 226.8135 for early registration.

Active Living Class

It’s important to take an active role in weight-loss management.

This class is offered exclusively to bariatric patients beginning two weeks after surgery. The weekly class is held in a special section of the BHFC to respect your privacy.

You’ll work one-on-one with a personal trainer who will show you how to use the machines and create an individualized program tailored to your specific needs.

Active Living Classes are offered to bariatric patients at a special price of $32 for the 4-week session. The price is further reduced to $20 for BHFC members.

Bariatric Surgery Reunion

“Runway to Lasting Health” is the theme of the fifth-annual Borges Bariatric Reunion, held on April 28, 2012 in the Borgess Lawrence Education Center Auditorium. Since good health is always in style, this year marks the first-ever fashion show.

Patients of the Borgess Bariatric Surgery Program always look forward to our reunions as a chance to celebrate their hard work and success those who appreciate it most. It’s a great chance to catch up with your surgeon and your care team — as well as a chance to meet others who have had bariatric surgery and discuss each other’s experiences and triumphs.

There is no charge for a bariatric surgery patient and a guest.

To learn more call (269) 226.8135 or (800) 828.8135.

Call by April 13, 2012 to make a reservation for the 2012 event.
