What can you expect if you are injured and come to Borgess?
Emergency room physicians and trauma surgeons who have extensive training and experience will treat you. Care by necessary specialists such as neurosurgery or orthopedic surgery will be utilized promptly. If admitted to the hospital, care will be coordinated by the trauma surgeons with other members of the trauma team. The trauma team, the integral part of the delivery of care, consists of trauma surgeons, trauma case manager, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, nutrition specialists, neuro-psychologists, spiritual care, trauma nurse coordinator, respiratory therapists, clinical pharmacists, and social workers.
What makes Borgess unique?
On a daily basis the trauma team lead by the trauma surgeon meets to develop a plan of care specific to each patient’s needs. The attending trauma surgeon leads the team focused on meeting the patient’s physical and psychosocial needs. From the time a patient is admitted to the emergency department until they go home, we are there working with the patient and family. The team goal is re-integrating the individual back into their own community.
