Diabetes Education Program

The program includes three-hour group classes held on three consecutive days for adults with diabetes, family members and friends.

Topics include nutrition, medication, exercise, self-monitoring of blood glucose, and long-term management of diabetes symptoms and complications.

Program participants also receive individual meal-planning and glucose meter education.

Morning, afternoon and evening sessions are held for patients' convenience. Both group classes and individual appointments are offered at Borgess Medical Center on Gull Road in Kalamazoo, Borgess at Woodbridge Hills in Portage and Borgess-Pipp Hospital in Plainwell.

The Diabetes Education Program is certified by the Michigan Department of Community Health and is an American Diabetes Association recognized program.

Many insurance plans cover all or part of the cost of the Diabetes Education Program. Our staff can assist you with Medicare, Medicaid and insurance billing.
