Borgess Brain & Spine Institute

Revolutionizing The Science

Working to deliver an exceptional patient experience, the Borgess Brain & Spine Institute combines the expertise of Borgess Neurology, Neurosurgery of Kalamazoo and Borgess Spine, among other specialties. For over four decades, Borgess has remained at the forefront of developing treatments for stroke, epilepsy, brain tumors, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, spinal disease and injury, and other neurological disorders. We also have the distinct ability to provide the latest minimally invasive treatment options for aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), stroke and vertebral fractures.

If you walk into the neuro rehab gym on Borgess Medical Center’s main campus, you may be surprised to find a dog wagging its tail.  Animal therapy is a part of the care available to patients recovering from neurological injuries like stroke or traumatic brain injury.  Pets can help patients to relax, calm their mood and lower stress while speeding their recovery.  According to Dr. Igor Kaps, medical director of the Borgess Neuro Rehab unit, animal therapy can lower blood pressure, improve dexterity and help with pain management by distracting patients from the pain they may experience during movement.  Click here for a story on animal therapy at Borgess

From prevention and diagnosis to treatment and rehabilitation, Borgess is the place known for revolutionizing the science of the neurosciences.
