Postgraduate Year One (PGY-1) Pharmacy Residency

Purpose: Pharmacists completing the residency at Borgess will be competent clinical practitioners of pharmaceutical care in multiple patient-care settings, equipped with the knowledge and skills to independently meet the challenges of current and future pharmacy practice. They will be responsible for achieving optimal drug therapy outcomes and will be prepared to become leaders in pharmacy. These pharmacists will be responsible for educating other health care providers, patients, and the community on pharmacy-related topics. They will demonstrate professional development through becoming life long learners and exhibiting commitment to the profession by participation in professional organizations.

The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program at Borgess offers the following unique strengths:

  • As a 424-bed community, teaching hospital, we are large enough to provide ample educational opportunities, but small enough so you do not feel like number

  • All of our residency preceptors have graduated from an ASHP-accredited residency program, over half have also obtained advanced degrees (Pharmacy Administration) or specialty residency training

  • We offer residents the opportunity to participate in Ferris State University College of Pharmacy’s Pharmacy Education and Lecture Series (PEDALS) program

  • The majority of our graduates have obtained clinical pharmacy positions upon completion of the residency or have been accepted to specialty residency (PGY-2) or fellowship programs
