Your Connection to Excellence

If you’re one of the more than 66,000* people in southwest Michigan living with diabetes, there’s a place you can count on for a healthier future.

When it comes to diabetes education, diagnosis and treatment, Borgess is your connection to excellence. The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and American Diabetes Association (ADA) have recognized 37 Borgess doctors for providing the highest level of diabetes care.

Only These 37 Borgess Doctors Have Received This Exclusive Recognition.

Care Based on Best Practices

In partnership with the ADA, the NCQA established the Diabetes Physicians Recognition Program. The program distinguishes physicians who use evidence-based measures and provide excellent care to their patients with diabetes. The program’s evidence-based measures include:

  • HbA1c control
  • Blood pressure and low-density lipoprotein (LDL or “bad” cholesterol) management
  • Eye examinations
  • Nephropathy (kidney disease) assessment
  • Smoking status and cessation advice or treatment

“Affecting more than 66,000* people in southwest Michigan alone, diabetes increases the risk for heart disease, stroke, and other serious health conditions and complications,” said Dr Oliva, Borgess Chief Medical Officer. “Borgess has raised the bar in clinical quality by having the first practices and only primary care practitioners in Kalamazoo County to achieve the NCQA recognition. This reinforces that our providers are measurably among the best in the nation in caring for patients with diabetes.”
