New beginnings at the Borgess Birthing Center

The first kick. The first time you hear a heartbeat. The first cry. You and your baby will have lots of firsts, and it’s important to have someone you trust working by your side throughout all of them.

For the 2008 fiscal year, 1,438 families chose the Borgess Birthing Center as their trusted provider.

That’s why the Borgess Birthing Center is committed to helping your family before, during and after the birth of your child. Here, we provide a complete offering of classes, information, programs and specialists to help ensure a good birthing experience. Plus, we offer the latest in technology and equipment if there are unexpected complications

At Borgess, new mothers are given comfortable rooms for labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum. Each birthing room looks like an attractive, home-like bedroom, yet transforms into a sophisticated birthing suite in minutes. In addition, our recently decorated postpartum rooms now offer new options for moms-to-be. To promote newborn/mother bonding, we encourage babies to “room-in” with moms. What’s more, dads can stay with you, too — we’ve provided a pull-out couch or chair in every room.

Along with a warm and inviting atmosphere, Borgess physicians, specialists and certified nurse midwives offer experienced guidance and support. When active labor starts, you are assigned a registered nurse who will assist you with the labor and birth process.

For added peace of mind, our neonatologists specialize in caring for premature infants, sick newborns and babies born with a variety of conditions requiring special care for the first few weeks of life. Newborn babies who need intensive medical attention are often admitted into the special area of the hospital called the Special Care Nursery (SCN). The SCN combines cutting edge technology and trained professionals to provide advanced care for infants with special needs.

In addition to caring for you and your baby during delivery, Borgess Birthing Center provides personalized assistance to both expectant and new parents. Refer to the page links, related classes and view the Birthing Center video (mp4 format) for more information on having your baby at Borgess.
