The Borgess Bariatric Center program incorporates the expertise of a variety of professionals, including dieticians, behavioral medicine specialists and our bariatric surgeons:
Dr. Stuart R. Verseman, MD, FACS
Practicing with General and Bariatric Surgery, PC, Dr. Stuart Verseman specializes in bariatric surgery, as well as general surgery. Raised in southern Illinois, Dr. Verseman received his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago and completed his residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. In the U.S. Navy, he served as a surgeon on the USS Theodore Roosevelt. Prior to moving to Kalamazoo, Dr. Verseman practiced in the northwest Chicago suburbs for more than 10 years. Certified by the American Board of Surgery as a Diplomate, he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Melissa H. Olken, MD, PhD.
Dr. Olken has significant research and clinical experience in nutrition, exercise physiology and bariatric medicine. She received her medical and doctorate degrees at the University of Illinois at Urbana, and completed residency training at University of Michigan Medical Center. Board certified in internal medicine, she was a recipient of a National Institute of Health Clinical Nutrition Fellowship. Dr. Olken is a member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians, Obesity Society and American College of Physicians.
