Calculate Your Body Mass Index (BMI)

BMI is a common measurement of excess weight and obesity.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both adult men and women.

To calculate your BMI:

  1. Multiply your weight (in pounds) by 704.
  2. Divide that total by your height (in inches).
  3. Divide that answer by your height (in inches) again.

For example, a woman who is 5’6” and weighs 190 pounds would have a BMI of 31.

We’ve made it easy for you.

Or use this simple calculator:

BMI Result:

BMI Weight Status
Below 18.5 Underweight
18.5—24.9 Normal
25.0—29.9 Overweight
30.0 to 35.0 Obese
35.0 and Above Morbidly Obese

This calculator is not intended to replace the evaluaion of a healthcare professional.

BMI alone should not be used to determne healthy weight or predict health risks. Other considerations include:

  • Waist measurement — a larger waist relative to normal weight can increase disease risk
  • Muscle mass — since muscle weighs more than fat, a healthy body builder will have a higher BMI than a sedentary person of similar measurements
